Big Lots is making a comeback this week as nine of its stores reopen their doors across six states, marking the retailer's return after filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.
The discount chain's revival begins April 10 under new ownership by Variety Wholesalers, a North Carolina-based retail group that acquired 219 Big Lots stores and two distribution centers.
"Shoppers can expect remodeled stores, closeout deals, and new categories like family clothing and electronics," said CEO Lisa Seigies. While acknowledging initial operations may need fine-tuning, she noted that new products will be added weekly.
The first wave of reopening locations includes:
- Mount Sterling, KY: 1342 Indian Mound Dr
- Metairie, LA: 755 Veterans Memorial Blvd
- Tupelo, MS: 2605 W Main St
- Pearl, MS: 5778 Hwy 80 E
- Asheboro, NC: 1432 E Dixie Dr
- Clarksville, TN: 1041 S Riverside Dr
- Gallatin, TN: 744 Nashville Pike
- Dickson, TN: 220 Dickson Plaza Dr
- Roanoke, VA: 2911 Hershberger Rd NW
The company plans to reopen an additional 55 stores on May 1, followed by more locations through early June. Future reopenings will span multiple states including North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
Under the new ownership, Big Lots will introduce a full apparel department - a new addition to its traditional merchandise mix. The retailer aims to offer an enhanced shopping experience with broader product selection and competitive pricing.
